Intellian Technologies
ESA User Terminal Product Series
Commercial satellite companies are looking to expand their offering to alternative markets, including consumer sectors. With competition heating up, companies must now consider product aesthetics, form factor, usability and perceived value in addition to performance. Intellian Technologies Inc. already had a strong commercial brand presence, but wanted help from DDSTUDIO to design their technology for consumer use cases. With the successful launch of the ESA User Terminal Product Series last year, Intellian secured a strong position in this growing direct-to consumer market.

Intellian Technologies Inc. is a global provider of satellite user terminals and communications solutions for fixed enterprise, land mobility, maritime, government and defense sectors. Their recent product focus has been to optimize the size, weight, power and cost so they can provide the same seamless connectivity to alternative markets such as high end consumer, remote and first responders.
Since solving the right problems for new cases isn’t straightforward, we interviewed existing homeowners using home satellite communications and analyzed competitors to identify unmet needs and customer expectations. We facilitated team brainstorms looking at new ways to package technology into an in-home receiver and easily mounted roof antenna while also reducing cost. A visual brand language exercise with Intellian marketing leads defined how they wanted to apply their brand and signature touchpoints to ensure an intuitive, consumer user experience. The Intellian Technologies Star became an integral part of the product presence.

Ease of set-up is the prime objective. The small and light terminal combined with a one-step mount and single coaxial cable for power & data, reduces installation time and costs. A simple, two indicator set-up helps prevent /diagnose any potential issues. The user experiences a seamless, high quality satellite service from the start.
The primary interaction is installation. This is almost plug-and-play with automated true north calibration, auto commissioning, and a user-friendly Mobile App. The small size and design of the dish makes it invisible in most installs.
