Case Study
Embracing Early Design Integration

Background & Collaboration
The Canadian Administrator of Video Relay Service (CAV), Inc., or CAV, is a not-for-profit telecommunications services company with a mandate from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to design, implement and oversee the delivery of Video Relay Service (VRS) in Canada.
Canada VRS enables Deaf, Hard of Hearing or speech-impaired Canadians who use American Sign Language (ASL) and Langues des signes Québécoise (LSQ) to make telephone calls via Internet-based videoconferencing technology.
DDSTUDIO collaborated with the Canadian CAV to create an interface that facilitated communication for the hearing support communities and the deaf and hard of hearing communities the service supports.
How We Began
Our objective was to understand the entire flow of the SRV CAV process. To do that we conducted extensive field research and interviews.
Ensuring ease of use was paramount as government organizations have a notoriously poor reputation for implementing streamlined technologies.
Achieving Goals
Accessibility and inclusion are paramount in the SRV Canada community and DDSTUDIO was proud to facilitate a country-wide system that has been in operation since 2016.
The design and functionality do exactly what we imagined they would, they disappear to create connection.
